Frequently Asked
Questions

DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP HURT?

Permanent makeup feels different for everyone. A topical numbing cream is used prior to the procedure, this ensures the client is comfortable. During the procedure if the client has any discomfort, other numbing agents can be used. It is very important to me that my clients are comfortable and enjoy their experience!

IS IT LIKE A REAL TATTOO?

Many people believe microblading is not a tattoo process. Permanent cosmetics, micropigmentation, microstroking, eyebrow embroidery, and semi-permanent makeup, are all different names for Cosmetic tattooing. Any time color is placed into the skin with any device, it is a tattoo process. That being said, the pigments used in these procedures are made of iron oxides which absorbs into the body over time and fades to eventually disappear. I also use a different machine. My machine is a rotary machine which is much more gentle, the machine is way more quiet and very easy to use compared to a coil machine.

CAN IT BE REMOVED?

Permanent makeup can be removed to some degree. There are procedures such as laser removal. Color correction which can be done by myself, entails my machine and a mixture of products to lift and camouflage any unwanted color. Of course there are always risks with any tattoo removal procedure, scarring can occur.

WHAT KIND OF INK IS USED?

The pigments I use are iron oxide based as well as organic. The pigments are below the FDA suggested toxic metal percentages allowed.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Permanent makeup can last anywhere from 1-8 years. Touch ups can be done regularly to keep the color bright and crisp. Eyebrows last 1-3 years, lips last up to 5 years and eyeliner lasts on the higher end of up to 8 years.

HOW WILL MY COSMETIC TATTOO LOOK IN THE FUTURE?

I will analyze my client’s skin undertone to anticipate how pigment colors will fade in the future, and I mix special formulas to ensure color remains in the same tone. For the majority of our clients, their Permanent Makeup stays in the ideal and true color. There are some cases however, which make colors fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like skin tone and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes, in your follow up appointment we analyze how your body has responded to the initial color. Special formula alteration to correct the color and to prevent further color change is made at this time. Permanent makeup eventually fades out over time.

WHAT IS THE HEALING PROCESS?

Your permanent makeup will appear darker and bigger than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten over the course of a week.

Eyeliner: Expect that your eyes will be swollen for up to 3 days (like how you would look after crying). Some careful maintenance is required to make the swelling go down faster.

Eyebrows: Your eyebrows will appear thicker and much darker for up to 7 days post procedure until any scab peels off. The area may also be reddish and tender, so be gentle with your skin during the healing process and keep applying the aftercare product provided.

Lips: Your lips will look very intense and become swollen for 2-4 days, depending on the individual. Usually the scab will peel off after 4-6 days. During this time, the color will look quite pale, only the lip line will show a light color. Be patient at this time until the skin matures which will take about 1-2 months until you can see a more natural result.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE ON A SHAPE ?

I usually ask the client to come with their makeup as they normally wear it. From there we decide what the shape and color will be based on their features, face shape and skin tone to decide the affect we want to achieve. Then I clean the area, draw the desired shape outline and once we both agree that it is perfect we apply the numbing cream and shortly after, start the procedure.

IS PERMANENT MAKEUP ALLOWED IN A RESIDENCE/HOUSE?

Yes! Cosmetic Tattooing is not considered the same as the normal tattooing you find at a tattoo shop. In order to operate a Cosmetic Tattooing business there are many rules and guidelines that need to be followed. Saskatoon Health inspects my residence and work space once a year to make sure I am following the rules. I have obtained a Business License from the City of Saskatoon and have done more than the adequate amount of training for a business such as Permanent Makeup Tattooing. I am a fully insured, legitimate business! All with the comforts of a warm inviting space with the highest level of safety, cleanliness and professionalism.
